Menu Plan Monday – Organizing Recipes
My husband says I have the most complicated recipe system he has ever seen. I disagree. When I sit down to meal plan, it is quick and painless. Here is my system.
I get two recipe magazines, Kraft and Taste of Home Simple and Delicious. Each time I get a magazine, I tear out all of the pages containing recipes I want to try. I use a 3-hole punch to make holes in the side then put the actual magazine page in a binder. Now when I want a new recipe to try, I only need to flip through recipes that I want to try.
Once I have tried a recipe, one of two things happens. If we liked the recipe, I write the recipe in my personal recipe book. Many times I will make changes to recipes. For example, my husband isn’t a big fan of onions, so if a recipe includes onions, I often swap the onions for red or green peppers. When I write the recipe in my book, I include any changes I made to the recipe. If we didn’t like the recipe I throw the page out or cross out the recipe (if there are other recipes on the same page). Then I know we didn’t like it. I don’t waste space in my recipe book on meals we didn’t like. When I sit down to meal plan, the meals we like are all in one place.
What is your recipe system?
